LOCAL MSP ENCOURAGES PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GOOD FOOD NATION PLAN CONSULTATION

SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT’S LOCAL FOOD STRATEGY SHOWS THE VALUE OF PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

SNP MSP Ruth Maguire has encouraged residents of North Ayrshire to engage with the consultation on the Scottish Government’s Good Food Nation Plan, which aims to ensure everyone in Scotland can access nutritious, sustainable food.

The Plan sets out the ways in which the Scottish Government will work with businesses and organisations across society to help connect people to locally produced, high-quality food; and transform the country’s food system.

The Scottish Government’s local food strategy, “Local Food for Everyone: Our Journey” also sets out how we can ensure that people have access to the best of Scottish produce. This follows a lengthy consultation which found that local production improves diets, lowers food miles and retains value in communities.

Commenting, SNP MSP Ruth Maguire said:

“Scotland can be immensely proud of the food it provides to residents of North Ayrshire, however we can do better when it comes to the availability and sustainability of locally produced food.

“The SNP Government’s Good Food Nation Plan outlines a vision of a more sustainable nation, and, more importantly, how we get there.

“Work at a local level will be crucial in achieving this, and, as demonstrated by the Scottish Government’s local food strategy, it is so important that people across North Ayrshire make their voices heard and participate in consultation events.

“By working together, we will ensure that everyone in Scotland can easily access high quality food and drink, benefitting from a more equitable and sustainable food system.”
