RUTH MAGUIRE MSP: I WILL PUT IN HARD YARDS TO TACKLE CHILD POVERTY

SNP SET OUT LONG TERM VISION TO ERADICATE CHILD POVERTY

Ruth Maguire, MSP for Cunninghame South, has said, “I will put in the hard yards to tackle child poverty” in North Ayrshire following First Minister John Swinney setting out his long-term vision to eradicate child poverty across Scotland.

The First Minister has outlined that tackling child poverty in Scotland will be rooted in three key pillars: a dignified and generous social security system; people-centred public services; and through a positive education system.

The SNP Government will prioritise long-term, sustainable solutions over quick fixes and work in collaboration with local government, organisations, and communities to tackle this national mission.

In North Ayrshire, the SNP’s Social Security System already supports families through the Scottish Child Payment and from next year will abolish the two-child benefit cap.

Ruth Maguire MSP said:

“Eradicating child poverty in North Ayrshire is my number one mission, and I will put in the hard yards to make this a reality.

“Tackling child poverty will require bold actions and thinking. It will also require organisations across North Ayrshire to work in collaboration.

“I back the First Minister in his long-term vision to eradicate child poverty through a dignified and generous social security system, people-centred public services, and a positive education system.

“The SNP is on the side of Scotland and while there is more to do, the hard work of eradicating child poverty is already well underway.”
