Ruth Maguire, MSP for Cunninghame South, has welcomed the Scottish Government announcement that more than 100 organisations across Scotland working to tackle violence against women and girls will share in a funding uplift of £2.4 million.
The funding boost will bring the total Scottish Government investment in Delivering Equally Safe, which funds projects to prevent violence and support survivors, up to £21.6 million for the year ahead, subject to the 2025-26 Budget being approved.
One of the organisations set to benefit is North Ayrshire Women’s Aid, which will receive £98,585 to continue its vital work supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse. The organisation provides essential services, including specialist support, refuge accommodation and various workshops, ensuring that those in need have a safe space and the help required to rebuild their lives.
Commenting, Ruth Maguire MSP said:
“Grassroots organisations across North Ayrshire are at the heart of tackling violence against women and girls. Their work is fundamental to creating a country free from gender-based abuse.
“North Ayrshire Women’s Aid provides vital, life-changing support to women and children in our community. Whether it’s offering a safe place to stay or emotional and practical assistance, their work is invaluable in ensuring that no one facing abuse is left without help.
“This funding boost will support these organisations in their efforts to prevent violence and provide survivors with the support they deserve.”
