91% OF SCHOOL LEAVERS IN POSITIVE DESTINATION

NORTH AYRSHIRE MSP WELCOMES RISE IN SCHOOL LEAVERS ENTERING, WORK, EDUCATION OR TRAINING

Ruth Maguire MSP for Cunninghame South has welcomed new figures that show that more young people in North Ayrshire are moving on to work, training or further education after leaving school – crediting the SNP Scottish Government’s investment in young people and education as a driving force behind the success.

The latest Summary Statistics for Follow-Up Leaver Destinations reveal that 91% of school leavers in North Ayrshire reached a positive destination within nine months of leaving school in 2023-24.

Nationally, the proportion of school leavers in positive destinations has risen from 85.9% in 2009-10 to 93.1%.

Commenting, Ruth Maguire MSP said:

“These figures are hugely encouraging and reflect the dedication and resilience of young people across North Ayrshire. To see such a high percentage of our school leavers moving into further education, training or employment is a clear sign that the SNP’s support for young people is making a difference.

“It is also a testament to the fantastic work of our local teachers, career advisers, colleges and training providers who continue to support our young people through their next steps.

“The SNP has consistently prioritised investment in education, skills and training, and it’s thanks to this approach that we’re now seeing one of the highest rates of positive destinations on record”.
