£54,101 TO SUPPORT FAMILIES OF HOSPITALISED CHILDREN IN NHS AYRSHIRE AND ARRAN

383 FAMILIES SUPPORTED UNDER SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT SCHEME

New figures have revealed that 383 families with a child in hospital in NHS Ayrshire and Arran benefitted from the Scottish Government’s Young Patients Family Fund last year.

The scheme ensures that parents and carers of under 18s receiving hospital care can cover the cost of travel and food to the hospital – with a total of £54,101 being issued to families in the area last year.

Local MSP Ruth Maguire has welcomed the figures, stating they show the SNP Government’s commitment to supporting families in their time of need.

Commenting, local MSP for Cunninghame South, Ruth Maguire said:

“It is great news that the Young Patients Family Fund has supported 383 families in NHS Ayrshire and Arran over the last year.

“This funding helps parents visit their children in hospital – supporting families in their time of need.

“Alongside the Baby Box, 1,140 hours of free childcare, and scrapping the two-child cap, schemes like the Young Patients Family Fund help to ensure Scotland is the best place in the UK to raise a family.”
