Proud moment this morning as Vennel Gardens and Centre were officially opened by Provost Joan Sturgeon. These beautiful sustainable homes are a wonderful example of high quality social housing for our older people. They are also the first new build sheltered housing complex in North Ayrshire for 30 years!
The Government announced last week it had exceeded its five-year target of delivering 30,000 affordable homes by March 2016, funded by £1.7 billion.
That target included a pledge to deliver 20,000 social rented homes including 5,000 council homes, both of which have also been exceeded.
As announced at conference last month, if re-elected to government next May our pledge is to build a further 50,000 new affordable homes, nearly double the last target.
We believe in a fairer more prosperous Scotland, affordable, warm homes for all is central to that vision.
