RUTH JOINS THE YOUNG SCOT AWARDS NOMINATION DRIVE

Ruth Maguire, MSP for Cunninghame South, visited the Young Scot tour bus at the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday (7th Feb 2017) to get behind Scotland’s biggest celebration of young people and to urge locals from Cunninghame South to nominate young heroes for the Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards.

Commenting, Ruth said: “There are so many inspirational young people in Cunninghame South and the Young Scot Awards are the perfect opportunity to celebrate their achievements. If you know any young person who has made a difference to your community, nominate them today.”

Louise Macdonald, Chief Executive of Young Scot, said: “We’re already received hundreds of inspirational nominations and I know there are hundreds more out there. It’s fantastic to have support from MSPs to celebrate the inspirational achievements of young people.  We want everyone across Scotland to get nominating so we can give young scots the praise they deserve!”

The bus will spend four weeks travelling around the country, searching for inspiring young people who deserve recognition for their extraordinary work to improve the lives of others in their community.  The Young Scot bus will visit towns and cities across Scotland and communities will get the opportunity to cast their nominations alongside famous faces.

The Young Scot Awards is Scotland’s biggest celebration of young people and shines the spotlight on the outstanding contribution of inspirational young people aged 11-26, who have made a real difference to the lives of others.  Previous winners include Sir Andy Murray, Great Britain’s Women’s Curling Team, Flora Shedden, Gordon Reid, Paulo Nutini and fundraiser Jenny Cook.

Now in its twelfth year, the Awards celebrate the contributions and work of young people across categories including health, community, the arts and diversity. From hundreds of entries, three finalists will be chosen in each of the 12 categories. The winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow on 27 April 2017.

Young Scot is urging people to nominate at youngscotawards.com before the voting closes on 27 February 2017.
