On Tuesday 24th October, SNP MSP for Cunninghame South, Ruth Maguire, was elected as co-convenor of Holyrood’s Cross Party Group on Kurdistan. Ruth will co-convene the group with Green MSP, Ross Greer.
The purpose of the Cross Party Group is to promote and enhance understanding of Kurdistan, Scotland’s Kurdish community and the wider Kurdish diaspora at cultural, social, political, academic and economic levels.
In recent weeks, the group has joined with Scottish Solidarity with Kurdistan to raise funds for a ‘Scotland School’ to be built in Kobane, in Western Kurdistan, and hosted journalist and broadcaster, David Pratt, to provide a presentation about the situtaiton in Iraqi Kurdistan.
