RUTH MAGUIRE BACKS SMALL BUSINESS ALTERNATIVE TO BLACK FRIDAY

With Christmas shoppers looking to get their hands on a bargain over Black Friday and Cyber Monday at the end of November, a local MSP took part in a small business alternative which places focus on community owned businesses.

Ruth Maguire MSP for Cunninghame South, was among many people taking part in Small Business Saturday – an initiative aimed at encouraging high street shoppers to give their patronage to locally owned businesses in support of high streets across the country as the retail sector continues to face increasing competition from online outlets.

Ms Maguire said:

“I dropped into Serenity Boutique and Purple Daisy in Kilwinning to pick up a little Christmas shopping.  These stores are just two examples of the great local shops we have in North Ayrshire who bring life to our streets with excellent products and personal service.  I would wholeheartedly encourage everyone to “shop local” when they can, not just at Christmas but all year round.”

Small Business Saturday officially began in the UK 2013 after successfully taking hold in the United States in 2010.
