Ruth Maguire, MSP for Cunninghame South, has thrown support behind a local charity which aims to provide vital respite breaks to children with terminal and life altering illnesses.
The Whiteleys Retreat, is based in a converted farm in Alloway and was opened in September 2018 thanks to the efforts of supporters and volunteers throughout Ayrshire.
The resource contains two cottages within their grounds which contain private gardens where children and their families can access a wide range of therapeutic activities; including art, music and animal therapy.
Ruth Maguire said: “I was really grateful to see first-hand the wonderful facilities for families at Whiteleys Retreat and hear all about the vital services they provide in such a lovely peaceful setting.”
Bernard Smith, General Manager at Whiteleys Retreat said: “We were delighted and thrilled to have Ruth visit us at Whiteleys Retreat to offer her support for the range of work that we do to support the community as she has done for other causes in the area.
“I hope that we have been able to enlighten her on the work that takes place here in how we support families in need of respite.
“We’re also pleased that Ruth taking part in the next upcoming Kiltwalk to raise funds on our behalf.”
The charity is aiming to broaden their suite of services offered to families of terminally ill children in the future, including a carer’s week and bereavement breaks.
