1st in the queue for the ferry to Lochranza |
My youngest daughter and I spent this bank holiday weekend on Arran. Through bad planning rather than choice we sailed from Claonaig rather than Ardrossan. A longer drive, but the sun was shining and the scenery really bonnie.
We camped at the Seal Shore campsite in Kildonan. It’s a really beautiful spot, decently priced with good facilities. I’d recommend it, although it’s probably a good idea to book ahead. We were lucky to not take up much space and get a pitch tucked into a corner as they were pretty much fully booked.

Another place really worth a visit is the Machrie Bay tearoom. We tucked into a healthy “lunch” of Hot chocolates with cream and marshmallows and a generous slice of delicious coffee and walnut cake. The staff were really welcoming and friendly, a lovely place to stop and refuel. The proper lunch food looked great as it passed our table to the more sensible diners. We’ll definitely go back there.

The water on the west side of the island was lovely and clear looking and we had good fun skimming stones…..well throwing them in.
We’re lucky to have such beautiful countryside and coast on our doorstep here in North Ayrshire if you’ve never been it’s worth a visit – we’ll certainly be going back.
