RUTH PLANTS APPLE TREE WITH LOCAL PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS

Following on from Holyrood’s Apple Day at the beginning of December, an annual event bringing together schools, communities and enthusiasts from across Scotland, on Friday 23rd December Ruth Maguire MSP headed to Abbey Primary School in Kilwinning to plant the tree that she was given with the help of the pupils of the school’s Eco Committee.

Holyrood’s Apple Day, and the subsequent planting of a tree in the MSP’s local community, is intended to raise awareness of and preserve old apple heritage varieties, help people grow fruit trees in schools, communities, parks and gardens, and to celebrate a Fruitful Scotland.

Commenting, Ruth said:

‘This a fantastic initiative to celebrate the start of the apple tree planting season, and to instil in the children an awareness and appreciation of naturally grown food.

I am hugely thankful to the staff and pupils of Abbey Primary for helping me to plant my apple tree, and look forward to watching it grow with them over the months ahead’
