Weekly Bulletin 11th – 15th December

This week, Ruth has:

  • Met with representatives and officials of GMB Union to discuss their concerns around public sector pay for local authority workers

 

  • Welcomed the SNP Government’s announcement of a bold and progressive budget to deliver for public services and protect low and middle income earners

 

  • Taken part in a Holyrood debate focused on looking forward to Scotland’s – and the world’s – first ever Year of the Young People in 2018.

 

  • Reiterated her calls on the need to address male demand when it comes to tackling commercial sexual exploitation in a debate marking the the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

 

  • In Education Committee, taken evidence from Education Scotland on various aspects of ongoing reform to education

 

  • Welcomed the increase in teacher numbers in North Ayrshire between 2016 and 2017, from 1, 371 to 1, 396 – reflecting the SNP Government’s commitment to education

 

  • Joined with other politicians, academics, NGO leaders and celebrities across the world in signing an open statement to call on President Trump, Prime Minister May and President Macron, to act to prevent further catastrophe in Yemen
