Cunninghame South MSP, Ruth Maguire presented pupils of St Winning’s Primary School with a copy of a motion raised in The Scottish Parliament praising them for the opening of a faith garden within their grounds.

The Kilwinning school opened the faith garden in October 2019 as a place open to all pupils, staff, parents and carers to reflect and pray.

The garden, completed with work from Shona Lowndon and pupils in P6/7, contains brightly coloured stones, painted with positive messages to allow for visitors to be inspired to pray or simply take time to reflect. The stones have been hand painted and decorated by pupils with flowers also being planted by the school’s gardening club.

The garden is designed to offer privacy to pupils while also being in view of staff to allow for supervision.

Ruth Maguire MSP who raised the supportive motion in Parliament said: “I was delighted to be able to visit St Winning’s and congratulate the pupils personally on their hard work in creating the faith garden.  They were rightly proud of the wonderful, thoughtful space they had created for school pupils, staff and all connected with the school to benefit from.”

The garden was blessed by Fr Gerry Magee, parish priest of St Winin’s Church near the school before the October break last year.
